I’m just blog tired here đ. Just looking at blogshares again. I’m slightly p*ssed off with the inaccuracies in it’s valuation of my blog. I find it ridiculous that given the numbers of people that use the bloglines blog aggregator that the blogshares spiders can’t bypass the single level of indirection implied by their javascript blogroll. It’s a real pain in the ass as I’m damned if I’m going to do any server-side scripting to dynamically embed my roll in the page. Bloglines was recently acquired by AskJeeves which also owns the teoma patented thematic search technology. The idea appears to be the creation of a search engine that is capable of thematically searching and grouping a massive database of RSS blog and news feeds. Which is a pretty nice idea in my opinion. I wish them luck.
Here’s part of the press release…
âBloglines is not only a market leader in feed aggregation and blog search, but it is truly one of the most useful and addictive services on the entire Web. We are excited about providing Bloglines with the resources to grow its service and help it reach a broader audience,â said Jim Lanzone, Ask Jeevesâ senior vice president of search properties. âBloglines is a natural fit for our multi-brand portfolio, as we extend our information retrieval services to encompass the rapidly growing amount of dynamic content and information available in the blogosphere.â

Bloglines has been touted for excellence around the world with many awards and accolades, including Time Magazineâs 50 Coolest Websites for 2004.
âBloglines became so popular because it was one of the first Web services to make blog and RSS feed reading free and easy to understand for average Internet users. We want to continue this quest to bring our exciting capabilities into the mainstream,â said Mark Fletcher, CEO of Bloglines. âBy joining forces with Ask Jeeves, we will be able to accelerate our growth with access to the millions of unique visitors to Ask Jeevesâ properties. Ask Jeeves plans to leverage these technologies across its search and portal brands, and as of today, Bloglines Web search capability will be powered by Ask Jeeves search technology.
âThe Ask Jeeves search advantage is based on world-class technical innovation and a user-centric approach,â continued Lanzone. âIt is exciting to have the opportunity to connect Bloglinesâ live information flow and blog search capabilities with our unique indexing technology to provide consumers with one of the most comprehensive and personal web experiences across all sourcesâfrom the desktop to the Internet and, now, into the blogosphere.â
