County Enterprise Board

Hi Margaret,
Hope your doing well!? If not then tell me all about it and maybe I can
improve matters or tell you how things could be worse 🙂 Anyway, it’s always
good to take the time to catch up on old friends but this isn’t a purely
social visit!

As you probably know I’ve set up a web design and development business and
we’re in the process of releasing an e-commerce package. I’m interested in
the possibilities of enlisting the county enterprise board to help direct &
inform our marketing campaign for this product. I had a chat with Barry
Downes about this and he directed me your way, informing me that you knew
everybody worth talking to there. Could you provide me with a contact number
so I could discuss this matter further with someone from WCEB?

Sincerest regards,

…hsane

The legacy of Pope John Paul 2nd

I was born and raised a Roman Catholic but like most of my Irish 20-something contemporaries I have happily lapsed into a state of occasional church visits brought about more by guilt than any real conviction about catholic teachings or doctrines. Doesn’t mean that I’m not a spiritual person or even that I’m an atheist but there’s a strong degree of gnostic scepticism in my attitudes to all religious organisations, creeds & their underlying/supporting rituals. However, I was fascinated to read this article on Kuro5h1n today. Whatever your personal opinion on his legacy as pope or his pronouncements on socioethical matters such as abortion, divorce or, most controversially, contraception he was undoubtedly one of the truely great figures of the 20th century. Not just because of his longevity in the office of pope but because of his profound impact in bringing about the demise of communism in eastern europe and the end of the “eastern-bloc” of communist countries that opposed the US during the cold war of the 70s and 80s.
An extract from the kuro5h1n post is telling

Karol Wojty?a, Archbishop of Krakow, was the leading figure in the movement by which the Polish Catholic Church became involved in politics. It was he who successfully led the movement to force the state authorities to authorize the building of a church in Nova Huta (by, essentially, embarassing them into it). It was his decision as Archbishop which allowed dissidents to use church basements to set up discussion groups for anti-regime agitation. It was he who stood as the foremost advocate for the notion that there was a Truth besides that which the state had authorized.

The catholic hierarchy in Poland, led by Wojtyla, bet that the Polish government was too afraid of the church’s power to punish this insurrection. They gambled with their lives and won.

in so doing, they turned the Polish Catholic Church into something unique: it became the only entity in the entirety of communist Eastern Europe which held a moral authority independent of the state. It was the only independent source of power which was tolerated in the communist world anywhere.

Im n a CWBB :-)

Today R & I officially became a CWBB. What the hell is that I hear you ask? Well it’s a Couple With BroadBand. I’ve noticed this as an emerging and ever increasing trend amongst my Irish friends. CWBB’s generally have

  • A high degree of shared computer literacy
  • Demanding jobs where one or both often work from home
  • A love of textual communication be it SMS, IM or email
  • laptop computers which are dragged throughout the house so they can surf whenever and wherever
  • A strong and growing appreciation of the joys of constant digital connectedness
  • A quirky yet often healthy tendency to communicate complex thoughts and emotions with eachother using web based communication such as blogs/IM/email… (even when they’re in the same house/room)

Other CPWB’s that I know include Bernie/Belene of running with bulls fame and my good friends Kristian/Cath.

product idea for media dissemination to meet legislative requirements of SOX 409

Hi Tom,
Funny thing is that I’m looking at you as I type this. Bloody weird. Anyway my
product idea is quite simple.

Under the SOX 409 act, US organisations are required to provide real-time
reporting of all events that could effect their share price or impact upon
financial performance. The term real-time is defined as within a reasonable
time after the event occurs.. management should make provision immediately to
make all shareholders and stakeholders aware of the complete information at
hand in an intelligible and coherent manner. The problem is that no method
exists at the moment which unifies events as they’re raised in a financial
reporting system with a PR reporting / crisis management reporting sysytem.

I think that a possible mechanism to achieve this utilises web services. Here,
the precise parameters of your reporting system could be defined as electronic
inputs such as a newsfeed adhereing to the du-jour standards such as RSS etc. A
businesses financial reporting system may therefore negotiate automatically
with your business to have a press release created and disseminated to a
desired and appropriate list of parties as required by SOX 409…

The negotiation is carried out using a secure webservices and the result is an
electronic document which is distributed and signed by both parties stating:

– the information to be disseminated
– the list of parties to notify (e.g. SEC, electronic news, media etc., other PR
agencies) (either physical or electronic including contact/forwarding
information)
– the schedule for dissemination
– the format for dissemination (live Real-Audion streaming, Quicktime etc. )

As stated previously there exists no standard mechanism for doing this at the
moment and as such, this would be a new an innovative process which is most
likely patentable. I.e. !!Potentially Highly Lucrative!!. I’d like to help you
develop this standard when I better understand your business process. I would
quite like a share of the revenues generated directly or indirectly from this
process for doing so. If you were agreeable.

Sincerest regards,

…shane
