SUN’s Java 6 (May the source be with you)

Picked up a useful piece of information from Xyling Java blog about Java 6 becoming increasingly open source
Building on the success of the snapshot release process started during the development of J2SE 5.0, SUN will make early snapshots available for J2SE 6. This will afford developers the chance to make a greater contribution to the Java development lifecycle. Mb>Only fair considering developers generally have an idea or two about improvements they’d like to see in languages, libraries, API’s etc. Well done to SUN on this developer friendly initiative.
(thinking of coming up with a “developer-friendly” logo similiar to the dolphin friendly one you see on some cans of tuna! Put suggestions on the comments page )

Textual Harrassment

Couldn’t resist the title. It turns out that an italian who sent a girl an unsolicited compliment over SMS has been fined.

“A judge in the northern Italian town of Padua on Monday found a man who sent an unsolicited compliment by SMS guilty of harassment and fined him 300 euros ($391), Italian news agency Ansa reported.”

The full story is here
Realistically, why should textual communication be treated any differently from making a phonecall or sending an email/letter?
Feel free to comment…

Humorous plug for for Solaris 10

SUN’s marketing department are cooking up funky cartoon promos for their s/w and h/w nowadays. Here’s the latest for Solaris 10. I’m not sure it altogether works (definitely a bit too earnest and not as irreverent as the MS smarty-pants toon). Still, Scott McNealy speaking Klingon at a trade conference is funny/tragic. Thanks to Kieran for the link. His place in the SUN is guaranteed. Contain your happiness Kieran 😉

Build a better remix

Having finally gotten the hang of virtual dj I’m amazed how easy it is to create high quality mixes with a relatively ordinary computer equipment. This mix (Orbital and the brilliant Lamb)was done on my laptop which is an overclocked Rock Direct Extreme Edition. As before, audio files are identified using the RSS 2.0 enclosures tag for those at the bleeding edge. Be warned, it’s a 9 meg download. Anyway, that’s me done on mixing for a while. I’ll get back to all things techie and scientific ASAP.
