\nI’ve been having a chat with a few friends of mine in the EU IT sector about
\ndeveloping a proposal to meet the following objective.

One of the ideas that I had was to use the technology that I developed when
\nI was working in TSSG (WIT) to manage arrays of sensor networks in
\ncontrolling a national networks of water pollution sensors. UCC have done a
\nlot of work in sensor network management through the National
\nMicroelectronics Research Centre. This coincides neatly with their law
\nfaculty’s promotion of environmental issues. As has DCU via their National
\nCentre for Sensor Research. I have friends in all these places. <\/p>\n
Part of the operation of this network would involve testing for a range of
\npollutants, transmission of pollutant information to a central coordinating
\npoint in real-time, real-time statistical trend analysis to determine
\nenvironmental risk factors at any particular time and environmental crisis
\nmanagement. The creation of a greater european network with the involvedment
\nof european and worldwide NGOs operating in the area of environmental would
\nenable european wide environmental issues to be analysed on a per country
\nbasis and could help direct european environmental policy through the
\nprovision of real-time accurate data about air pollution, water pollution
\netc. THe IST programme is great for funding such a project as:
\n– they have millions to spend on this particular programme
\n– the love Integrated Projects which are large-scale work programmes with
\ncommercial, non-profit and academic interests throughout europe.
\n– we’re hitting all the current Information and Communication Technology
\n(ICT) buzzwords including “sensor-nets”, “enviromental risk management”,
\n“ambient intelligence”, “mesh networks”… Wow, be still my beating
\ntechnophiliac heart honey!<\/p>\n
I suggest you have a serious think about this as I’d love to write a
\nproposal in this area, my track record in obtaining funding is damn good &
\nit would pay for the following:<\/p>\n
– trips to brussels and other major european cities to disseminate
\ninformation at conferences on IT and the enviroment
\n– consultancy fees for all concerned for the next 3 years
\n– the development and deployment of pollution measurement equipments
\nthroughout ireland.
\n– rigorous scientific analysis of pollution issues through collaboration
\nWith leading universities in the area.
\n– legal assistance from major national and european firms
\n– the creation of signifigant intellectual property associated with
\ninnovative technologies for risk management.
\n– & much more besides !!!!<\/p>\n
